BEARS AND SUGAR BEARS PLACE NINTH AT SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Freshman Erika Setzler had the third fastest 6K time in Sugar Bear history
BEAUMONT, TEXAS - The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's cross country teams both finished in ninth place at the Southland Conference Championships at the Bayou Din Golf Club on Thursday morning. The Sugar Bears scored 218 points on the 6k course and the Bears had 234 points in the 8k race.

For the women, freshman Erika Setzler placed 28th in a time of 22:54.2. The Conway native's mark was the third fastest 6k time in school history. Freshman Kayla Nehus was 34th in 23:21.8 and sophomore Courtney Efurd placed 46th in 23:42.8. Junior Heather Estetter (55th, 24:02.3) and sophomore Sabrina Peterman (57th, 24:09.7) rounded out the scoring for the Sugar Bears.

Stephen F. Austin won the women's title with 34 points. They were followed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (78), McNeese State (116), UT Arlington (137), UTSA (139), Nicholls (155), Lamar (158), Texas State (170), UCA, Southeastern Louisiana (254), Sam Houston State (265) and Northwestern State (332).

For the men, freshman Amos Gerber placed 38th in 26:56.5. Sophomore Tony Stewart was 44th in 27:22.0 and freshman Jeremiah Fleeman finished 45th in 27:27.3. Freshman Michael Allen (51st, 27:38.2) and sophomore Brad Kintner (67th, 28:47.4) were the other top finishers for the Bears.

Lamar took the men's side with 38 points. They were followed by McNeese (70), UTSA (77), SFA (114), TAMUCC (134), Texas State (155), UTA (201), SLU (213), UCA, SHSU (298), Northwestern St. (304) and Nicholls (378).
