BIG WEEK NETS HERBERT 10TH CAREER SOUTHLAND PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

CONWAY — After averaging 29 points and 12 rebounds in the Sugar Bears' wins over McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas junior forward Megan Herbert has been named this week's Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

It is Herbert's third time to receive the award this season, and 10th of her career.

She was also recognized by ESPN women's basketball writer Graham Hays, who dubbed her performance in the McNeese State game the best "off the radar" individual performance of the weekend.

In the double-overtime win over the Cowgirls, who were previously undefeated in league play, Herbert played all 50 minutes and had a season-high 32 points to go with 15 rebounds for her 56th career double-double. She shot 55 percent from the field and made 10 of 11 (91 percent) from the free throw line – including two with 6.8 seconds left in the second overtime that proved to be the decisive points.

It was the second-highest point total by any Southland player this season, the ninth 30-point game of her career and 23rd game of at least 15 rebounds.

During the first half of the McNeese game, she topped the 1,500-point mark for her career – becoming just the eighth player in UCA history to do so. She now ranks seventh in school history in scoring with 1,525.

In the first game of the week, against Southeastern Louisiana, she narrowly missed another double-double with 26 points and 9 rebounds, and shot 10-of-13 from the field (76.9 percent).

For the week she shot 63.6 percent from the field, 88.9 percent from the free throw line and had an average efficiency rating of 33.5, including a 37 in the McNeese game. For the season she is averaging 16.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

Herbert was also named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Southland Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season.

The Sugar Bears, who are 16-4 overall and tied for first in the Southland with a 6-1 league record, will travel to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern State Wednesday night in a game televised on the Southland Conference Television Network and ESPN3.
