FRESHMAN MOORE SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN HIGH JUMP


    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ The University of Central Arkansas men's track and field team won five events Friday at the Birmingham Southern Ice Breaker Indoor Meet and opened its indoor season with a school record and a second-place overall finish at the Crossplex facility.

    The UCA women had four Top 5 finishes and came in 12th overall.

    For the men, freshman Eric Moore of Rialto, Calif., won the high jump with a school-record  jump of 2.15 meters (7 feet, 1/2 inches), setting both the indoor and overall school record.

    Junior Anthony Farris-King of El Dorado won the long jump with a leap of 6.85 meters. Junior Jahleel Lilly was third (6.71). Lilly, from Miami, Fla., came back and won the triple jump with a distance of 14.54 meters, with Farris-King finishing fourth (13.85).

    Freshman Brant Cook of Grand Prairie, Texas, won the mile run in a time of 4:20.91, followed by freshman Alonzo Pollum in second (4:23.98) and senior Connor Ryan in third (4:23.99). UCA's Brant Cook, Nakita Higgins, Connor Ryan and Josh Quiroga won the distance medley in a time of 10:32.62, while UCA's B team (Jake Sanders, Daniel Spickes, Alonzo Pollum, Jonathan Burgess) finished second (10:36.96). 

    UCA was also second in the 4x400 relay as Dustie Smith, Darrell Johnson, Kelton Ray and Chance Tanner ran a 3:19.85. UCA's B team (Ethan Bly, Daniel Lawson, Roy Lowery, Jeremiah Watson) finished fifth in a time of 3:25.74.

    Senior Chance Tanner from Waldron finished second in the 200 meters in a time of 21.93, while Ethan Bly was eighth (22.83) and Rashad Jones was 10th (22.95). Freshman Josh Quiroga was second in the 800 meters (1:56.75) in the second-best time in school history, while Deonte Watson was sixth (2:00.09) and Nakita Higgins was seventh (2:01.13). 

   Freshman Jeremiah Watson of Chicago was third in the 400 meters (49.76), followed by Darrell Johnson in sixth (51.37) and Daniel Lawson in ninth (52.29). Junior Ryan Davidson of Joplin, Mo., finished second in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:04.16, while Ben Stansell was fifth (9:36.75). Freshman Ben Jordan was fourth in the pole vault (14-05.25).

    On the women's side, graduate student Erika Setzler of Conway finished third in the 3,000 meters (10:16.12) and fourth in the mile run (5:17.20). Senior Jean-Neka Black of Marion finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.91. UCA's 4x400 relay team of Jean-Neka Black, Khadijah Smith, Samantha Gibson and Tiauna Jefferson finished sixth in 4:00.00. The UCA B Team (E'Lexus Garvin, Lauren Daniel, Samatha Ellis, Jasmine Hill) was 13th (4:!6.67).

    Sophomore Samanthan Gibson of Pittsburgh, Pa., was fifth in the high jump at 1.60 meters. Junior Jasmine Campbell of Beaver Falls, Pa., finished seventh in both the triple jump (11.63) and the long jump (5.37), while junior Aysia Oliver was 14th in the long jump (5.12) and 16th in the triple jump (11.14).

    Sophomore Sara Calhoun of Fayetteville finished 11th in the pole vault at 3.20 meters. Freshman Shawanna Brockman of Morrilton was 12th in the shot put (11.17 meters). Senior Khadijah Smith of White Hall was 14th in the 400 meters in a time of 59.99, while freshman Helene Sensee was 18th in the 800 meters (2:30.11).

    Sophomore Tiauna Jefferson of Arlington, Texas, finshed 26th in the 200 meters (26.82), followed by Lauren Daniel in 27th (26.85) and E'Lexus Garvin in 28th (26.87).
