MEN FOURTH, WOMEN SIXTH AT SLC CHAMPIONSHIPS


    HUNTSVILLE, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas men's squad finished fourth and the women's team sixth on Friday at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships at Country Campus Golf Course.

    Sophomore Julien Jeandree finished 12th over the 8K course, running a time of 25:28.4. The top finisher for the women was junior Brigette Caruthers, who finished in a time of 22:27.5 over the 6K course.

    For the men, sophomore Preston Borg finished 17th in a time of 25:39.9, while senior Josh Quiroga was 25th in a time of 26:04.2. Junior Grant Williams finished 35th in 26:16.1, followed by senior Albert Maeder in 44th (26:33.0), freshman Markus Schweikert in 48th (26:41.7), freshman Albert Salazar in 49th (26:42.8) and senior Ryan Davidson in 57th (27:21.8).

    On the women's side, freshman Sara Shaw finished 26th in a time of 22:57.6, followed by sophomore Abigail Topham in 30th (23:05.8) and freshman Taylor Dunn in 31st (23:15.2). Junior Hannah Holstein finished 46th (23:49.1), while sophomore Layne Sargeson was 58th (24:22.8), senior Abbie Linna was 59th (24:27.8) and senior Sophie Clauss was 64th (24:51.9).

    The fourth-place finish by the men was the best since moving to NCAA Division I and into the Southland Conference in 2006.
