BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ Sophomore Eric Moore won the high jump competition to lead the University of Central Arkansas Bears to a second-place finish at the Birmingham Southern Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday.
The UCA women finished 12th, led by a first-place tie by Fulani Petties in the high jump and Top 10 finishes by Abigail Topham in the 3,000 meters and Jasmine Campbell in the long jump and triple jump.
Moore, from Rialto, Calif., jumped 7-feet, 1/2 inch to beat Ole Miss' Branden Greene on misses. UCA's distance medley team won the event for the second straight year in a time of 10:50.01. UCA also got a second place from Brock Collins in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:14.35. Jahleel Lilly finished third in the long jump with a jump of 22.02-50.
Woodrow Murray also finished third in the mile run in a time of 4:27.41. Charvon Wheeler was fourth in the triple jump (43-06.00). Robert Charlton finished fifth in the 60 meters in a time of 7.05, while Daniel Lawson was fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 50.15, followed by Aaron Hamilton in 10th (50.93). James Lassiter was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Deonte Watson was eighth in the 800 meters (1:59.55), while UCA's 4x400 relay team was fourth (3:23.16).
The men finished second to Ole Miss. Tulane won the women's division, followed by Ole Miss.
For the women, Petties jumped a school-record 1.7 meters (5-07.00 feet) and tied Kennesaw State's Shakedra Robinson. Both failed on three attempts at 1.75 meters. Topham had a time of 10:38.68 in the 3,000 to finish eighth. Campbell jumped 11.56 meters for eighth in the triple jump and 5.35 meters in the long jump for ninth. Aysia Oliver was close behind in 11th at 11.21 meters in the triple jump.
