CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas pole vaulter Daniel Spickes was named the 2015 Southland Conference Outdoor Freshman of the Year on Thursday.
Spickes was joined on the All-SLC teams by senior Chance Tanner, freshman Eric Moore and the 4x400 relay team of Tanner, Jeremiah Watson, Kelton Ray and Trevon Boyd.Â
Brigette Caruthers, a sophomore from Branson, Mo., finished second in the 10,000 meters and earned second-team All-SLC honors. Her time of 37:28.28 was the second fastest in school history.
Spickes, from Rogers, Ark., won the pole vault competition at last weekend's SLC Outdoor Championships, setting a UCA school record with a height of 16 feet, 9.25 inches. Spickes also set the indoor school record earlier this year at 16-7.25. Spickes was also eighth in the long jump. He also earned first-team All-SLC honors.
Tanner, from Waldron, Ark., won the 400 meters last weekend in an NCAA qualifying time of 46.09 to earn first-team All-SLC honors. He teamed with Watson, a freshman from Chicago, Ray, a senior from Little Rock, and Boyd, a freshman from Fayetteville, to finish third in the relay event to earn third-team honors.
Moore, a freshman from Rialto, Calif., finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 11.5 inches. He tied for first but finished second on misses. Moore holds both the indoor and outdoor records at UCA.
