AUSTIN, Texas _ University of Central Arkansas senior Chance Tanner advanced in the 400 meters on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminaries at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Tanner, a senior from Waldon, Ark., finished third in his heat and had the 14th-fastest time overall, running 46.63. The top 24 times advance to Friday's quarterfinals to be run at 6:15 p.m. The top 12 from there will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13. Â Oregon, June 10-13. Tanner was the Southland Conference outdoor champion in the 400 meters.
UCA freshman Eric Moore went out at 6-9.75 in the high jump and finished 40th overall. Junior Anthony Farris-King of El Dorado, fouled on all three of his attempts in the long jump.
Freshman Daniel Spickes of Rogers will compete in the pole vault at 1 p.m. Saturday. UCA's 4x400 relay team of freshman Trevon Boyd, senior Kelton Ray, freshman Jeremiah Watson and Tanner will compete at 9:15 p.m Saturday. The top 12 vaulters and the top 12 relay teams will all advance to the NCAA Championships.
