HAMMOND, La. _ University of Central Arkansas senior Chance Tanner qualified first in the 400 meters on Saturday at the 2015 Southland Conference Outdoor Championship at Southeastern Louisiana.
Tanner, from Waldron, ran a 46.68 to qualify first for Sunday's final. Tanner also qualified sixth in the 200 meters in a time of 21.22. Both times were personal bests for Tanner.
UCA stands in eighth place overall after two days of competition. Anthony Farris-King finished seventh in the long jump final (23-4.50), while Daniel Spickes was eighth (23-2.75). Grant Williams finished seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 9:29.06, the fourth-best mark in school history.
Josh Quiroga qualified second in the 800 meters in a time of 1:52.11, the fourth-best time in school history. Connor Ryan made the field in the 1,500 meters in eighth place in a time of 3:57.68. James Lassiter qualified sixth in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.65. On Friday, Jonathan Burgess finished seventh (31:54.13) and Preston Borg eighth (32:03.70) in the 10,000 meters.
On the women's side,
Brigette Caruthers was second in the 10,000 meters on Friday night in a time of 37:28.28, the second-fastest time in school history. Samantha Gibson finished eighth in the heptathlon Saturday with 4,411 points, including a fourth-place in the 800 meters. Anna Kirk finished seventh in the javelin on Friday with a toss of 137-4.75.
Molly Sampson qualified sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.11, tying for second in UCA history. UCA stands ninth overall heading into the final day of the meet.
