Conway – The Central Arkansas Bears have placed three members on the Southland Conference's Men's Cross Country, Track, and Field All-Academic teams. Chance Tanner, Jonathan Burgess, and Albert Maeder were all named to the league's All-Academic team on Thursday.
Tanner, a senior from Waldron, Arkansas, was honored due to a 3.60 GPA in pursuit of a health education degree. He set school records in both the 200 and 400 meters during the indoor season, as well as running on the 4x400 team that set a school record. He finished in the top seven times and won once during the indoor season, before finishing in the top five in all eight races he ran during the outdoor season. He was the Southland champion in the 400 meters and qualified for an NCAA regional in the 200 meters and as a member of Central Arkansas' 4x400 relay team.
Burgess, a senior from Bridgemon Downs, Australia, had a record-breaking season of his own. During the cross country season, he collected four top-20 finishes, including a seventh-place finish at the SLC Cross Country Championship. During the indoor track season, he set a new school record in the 5000 meters while finishing fifth at the SLC Indoor Championship, before setting records in both the 5000 and 10000 meters during the outdoor season. He has a 3.71 GPA and is pursuing a Sociology degree.
Maeder, a junior from Norman, Oklahoma, carries a 4.00 GPA in pursuit of a Biology degree. He recorded a pair of top-25 finishes in cross country before adding a pair in the 5000 meters and another in the 3000 meters during the indoor season. Maeder added three top-five finishes during the outdoor season, including a win in the 10000 meters.
