FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas women's cross country team finished 10th out of 18 and the men were 11th of 18 at Saturday's Arkansas Chili Pepper Festival held at the University of Arkansas Agri Park course.
The UCA women were led by senior Brigette Caruthers, who covered the 5K course in a time of 17:31.51 to finish 22nd overall. Sophomore Taylor Dunn finished 48th in 18:15.05, while sophomore Alejandra Ruiz was 51st in a time of 18:19.02. Sophomore Sara Shaw finished 78th (18:50.48) and freshman Kaylee Stewart was 95th (19:15.9). Senior Abbie Linna finished 97th (19:16.32), junior Addy Swaim was 105th (19:29.29), junior Abby Foreman was 106th (19:32.27) and junior Layne Sargeson was 107th (19:34.99).
On the men's side, sophomore Markus Schweikert led the Bears with a 32nd place finish in a time of 24:57.36 over the 8K course. Freshman Bill Kemboi was 38th in a time of 25:08.26, followed by junior Preston Borg in 61st (25:39.51), sophomore Brock Collins in 74th (26:04.11), senior Grant Williams in 81st (26:12.53). Junior Brant Cook was 90th (26:26.4), while freshman Jaron Hamilton was 101st (26:44.89), sophomore Ian Smith was 106th (26:52.53), senior Andrew Simpson was 112th (27:16.64) and junior Woodrow Murray was 121st (27:53.4).
UCA runs next at the Little Rock Invitational on Oct. 15.
