UCA OPENS INDOOR SEASON WITH SUCCESS AT ASU

JONESBORO, Ark. _  The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track programs opened the 2016-17 indoor season with a successful weekend at Arkansas State's Convocation center.

The Bears and Sugar Bears registered 15 person records, including two school records, tied one school record and more than a dozen program Top 10 performances.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Olivia Groeber and senior Sara Calhoun both cleared a school-record 3.45 meters (11-3.75), with Groeber finishing fourth and Calhoun fifth on misses

UCA junior Eric Moore won the men's high jump with a jump of 2.11 meters (6-11), with junior Takudzw Muchichwa getting third at 2.06 meters.  

Other first place finishes for UCA were junior Julien Jeandree in the men's 3,000 meters in a time of 8:31.97, a Top 10 mark in school history, and sophomore Brock Collins in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:14.97, leading a 1-4 finish by the Bears (Jaron Hamilton, Bill Kemboi and Brant Cook).

UCA's men also won the distance medley, with Brant Cook, Daniel Lawson, Jared Hamilton and Jeandree finishing in a time of 10:19.74, the sixth-best time in school history. Freshman Zachary Jewell was third in the long jump at 7.0 meters (22.11.75) and also finished fourth in the 200 meters (21.72) and third in the 60 meters (6.87, converted from 55). 

Junior Daniel Lawson finished second in the 400 meters in a time of 49.55, while Cook was second in the 800 meters in a time of 1:56.28. Freshman Zac Bitton finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4,144 points. 

On the women's side, senior Samanthan Gibson finished second in the high jump at 1.63 meters (5-4.25), while sophomore Hannah Noble was third (1.58m). Gibson was also second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.50, with freshman Olivia Groeber getting fourth (2:21.24). Junior Jasmine Richard finished third in the 400 meters in a time of 58.42, while senior Sophia Ramirez finished third in the triple jump at 11.24 meters (36-10.5).

UCA's 4x400 team of Victoria Campfield, SheBria Byrd, Richard and Samantha Ellis finished second in a time of 3:58.03. Freshman Erin Woodward finished fourth in the mile run (5:21.10).

Freshman Ajah Criner finished fourth in the 60 meters (7.84, converted from 55)) and sophomore Logan Morton was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44, converted from 55). Senior Hadley Swanson finished fourth in the pentathlon with 2,506 points.
