MAEDER SIXTH, CARUTHERS SEVENTH AT SLC OUTDOORS

    CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas _ Senior Albert Maeder finished sixth at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and field Championship  during Friday's first day of competition at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium.

    Maeder, a senior from Norman, Okla., ran a 31:27.62, the sixth-fastest time in school history. Junior Brigette Caruthers from Branson, Mo., finished seventh in the women's 10,000 meters in a time of 37:43.11,  the fifth-best time in UCA history.

    UCA men stand eighth overall after Day 1, while the UCA women are 11th. 

    Junior Samantha Gibson from Pittsburgh, Pa., stands ninth after four events in the heptathlon with 2,820 points. Sophomore Logan Morton was UCA's top finisher in the long jump at 14th place, jumping 15-02.75. Junior Sara Calhoun finished 11th in the pole vault at 10-08.00.

    Sophomore Shawanna Brockman was 11th in the javelin with a throw of 103-04. 

    Saturday's field events begin at 10 a.m., along with the multi events. Running events will begin at 3 p.m.
