Atkins, Criner Break School Records, Temple Sets Southland’s Fastest Time of Year

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Indoor Gorilla Classic and the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday. Jordan Atkins and Ajah Criner broke school records in their respective events. Sierra Temple ran the fastest time in the Southland Conference this year in the 60m.

Atkins won the 60m hurdles with the best run in program history with an effort of 8.07.
 
Temple recorded a personal-best mark of 7.509 and came in second in the 60m. Her time is the best in the Southland this season. Z'Kiah Kuykendall finished in sixth with an effort of 7.88.
 
Criner clocked a third-place time of 24.13 and posted the fastest mark in UCA history in the 200m. Tyler Rose came in 18th with an effort of 25.77. Temple added a 21st-place run of 25.82. With a mark of 25.91, Laterrica Thomas came in 22nd. Z'Kiah Kuykendall placed 23rd with a time of 26.06.
 
Zachary Jewell posted a second-place time of 21.44 in the 200m. Johnson Adegbite posted a career-best run of 21.92 and came in sixth. Bruce White clocked a time of 22.41 and placed 16th. Logan Murray notched a 23rd-place effort of 22.57. Johnathan Blair produced a time of 22.65, which was 26th. Joshua Armstead posted a run of 22.68 and came in 27th.
 
Timquorian Johnson recorded a third-place height of 1.95m (6-4.75) in the high jump, which is the best mark of his career. He came in ninth with a personal-best leap of 14.37m (47-1.75) in the triple jump.
 
Teshuna Sheppard recorded a season-best distance of 11.71m (38-5.00) and came in fourth in the triple jump. Taylor Coleman notched a sixth-place jump of 11.65m (38-2.75).
 
Armstead clocked a career-best time of 49.35 in the 400m and finished in sixth. White came in 12th with a personal-best run of 49.74. Luis Colon added a season-best effort of 50.98 and placed 22nd. Charles Christian posted the best time in his career with a 51.64 and came in 28th.
 
Jordan Brock notched an eighth-place run of 2:17.99 in the 800m, which is her best time this season.
 
Taylor Conway placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.55m (18-2.50).  Coleman posted a mark of 4.80m (15-9.00) and finished in 33rd.
 
Rose finished the 400m with an 11th-place time of 58.03, which is a season best. 
 
Gorilla Classic
 
The squad of Jared Hamilton, Ryan Yarde, Simon Schneider, and Josh Clethen placed eighth in the Distance Medley Relay with a combined effort of 10:24.53.
 
Aidan Patton placed 24th in the weight throw with a distance of 15.19m (49-10.00).
 
The Gorilla Classic continues on Saturday, Feb. 15, with the men's 4X800m relay at 10:30 a.m. Field events begin at noon with the women's high jump.
