CONWAY — The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears, undefeated through three games at home this season, will face by far their toughest test in the Farris Center when they square off against Tulsa – the highest-profile team to come to Conway – at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Sugar Bears (3-2), who have run roughshod over Jackson State and lower-division opponents Ecclesia and Central Methodist by a combined score of 244-127 in their last three games, will see a much more formidable foe in the Golden Hurricane (3-1).

Tulsa, a Conference USA member, has scored victories over UMKC, LaSalle and Akron. The Golden Hurricane was tripped up in its only other road game to date, losing 66-53 at Florida Gulf Coast.

Last season the Golden Hurricane handled the Sugar Bears 63-38 in Tulsa, a game in which Larrissa Williams (Little Rock/Joe T. Robinson) had game highs of 15 points and nine rebounds. The 6-foot-3 senior forward is averaging 11.3 points – second on the team – and 5.5 rebounds per game this season.

The key thus far for Tulsa has been freshman guard Taleya Mayberry, daughter of former NBA veteran and Arkansas Razorback star Lee Mayberry. The younger Mayberry leads Tulsa in scoring (12.0 ppg), assists (4.5 apg) and steals (4.3 spg). She has twice led the Golden Hurricane in scoring and had a double-double in the 70-64 win over Akron, going for 14 points with 10 assists.

The Sugar Bears enter the game looking for a better performance than what they displayed last season against the Golden Hurricane, when UCA shot just 22 percent (13 of 59) from the field, including a 17.6 percent effort in the second half as they were limited to 15 points over the final 20 minutes. UCA was further plagued in that one by its 31 turnovers.

UCA freshman forward Megan Herbert comes into the game as the Southland Conference’s fourth-leading scorer and leading rebounder at 15.6 and 12.6 per game, respectively.

Freshman Westin Taylor, at 15 points per game, is the fifth-leading scorer in the league and has connected on a Southland-best 3.8 3-pointers per game. Freshman forward Desiree’ Rogers is also averaging 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Sugar Bears.

UCA is aiming to win its fourth consecutive game for the first time since the final four games of the 2006-07 season.
