CONWAY, Ark _  Tye Throneberry’s eighth-inning home run carried the University of Central Arkansas Bears to a 6-4 victory over the Murray State Thoroughbreds on Tuesday night at Bear Stadium.

Throneberry, a junior center fielder from White Hall, hit a two-out, two-run home run to right center that scored shortstop Graham Martin with the go-ahead run. Throneberry finished 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

UCA (11-6) also got a solo home run from Martin, his first of the season, to lead off the sixth inning.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Throneberry led off with a single, Casey Cooper singled and Zack Dickson walked to load the bases off MSU starter Dan Huff. First baseman Josh Huffman was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run before Cooper scored on a double play ball.

The Thoroughbreds (12-5) put up three runs in the fourth inning, with right fielder Bryan Probst proving the big blow with a 3-run home run.  UCA tied it at 3-3 with an unearned run in the fifth inning but MSU re-took the lead with a single run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.

UCA tied it at 4-4 with Martin’s home run in the sixth. Senior righthander Matt Humphrey pitched the ninth for the Bears and worked around a leadoff single and hit batter to record his first save of the year. Junior Jeremy Brewer got the win with two scoreless innings.

The teams meet in the series finale at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
