CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The University of Central Arkansas baseball team put away Texas A&M-Corpus Christi early with a 21-6, seven-inning victory at Chapman Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bears, after blowing leads in the first two games of the series, scored in every inning and posted a season-best 20 hits. UCA improves their record to 18-23 overall and 9-15 in Southland play, while the Islanders fall to 16-29 and 8-16.

It was the most runs scored in a SLC game for UCA, and their biggest league win since beating Nicholls State 15-0 on April 15, 2007.

The Islanders used seven pitchers, who combined to allow nine walks and throw four wild pitches. Starter Brett Carnline (3-6) lasted just a third of an inning, facing six batters.

UCA freshman Logan Ariola (1-2) picked up his first career win by giving up nine hits, two runs, a walk and striking out four over six innings.

UCA spread out the scoring by plating four runs in the first, one in the second, two in third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth and five in the seventh.

Senior third baseman Jonathan Yerby went 2-for-3 with five RBI, four runs scored, two walks and a double. His grand slam in the top of the seventh tied  the UCA single season record of 12 home runs, knotting him with Kenny McMahan (1995) and Eric Cameron (1998).

Freshman Jordan Getchell went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Senior Richey Irvin went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in and senior second baseman Josh Huffman was 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Junior catcher Beau Geren extended his hitting streak with a triple to go with four runs scored.

Blake Roberts, Dillon Smith and Bobby Pritchett had two hits a piece.

Third baseman Martin Parra was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and catcher Stephen Flora had two RBI for the Islanders.

UCA will return home with against Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
