KERRVILLE, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas men's golf team
is in fourth place after the first round of the 2009 Southland
Conference Championship being played at The Club at Comanche Trace.
UCA shot a first-round 8-over 296, trailing UT Arlington (284), Lamar
(290) and Southeastern Louisiana (292). UTSA is in fifth place (298),
followed by Stephen F. Austin (306), Sam Houston State and Texas State
(309), McNeese State (310) and Nicholls State (327).
Sophomore Jad Sinclair led the Bears on Monday with a 1-over 73 and
is tied for eighth place overall. Sophomore Gideon Pienaar and freshman
Josh Sims are both at 2-over 74 and are tied for 15th. Sophomore Steven
Lecuyer is tied for 19th after a round of 3-over 75, while freshman
Chris Cooke shot 84 and is tied for 44th.
UTA's Zack Fischer is the first-round leader with a 5-under 67, followed by teammate Bobby Massa at 70.
The second and third rounds will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
