Athletic Department
Interns will assist with marketing initiatives geared toward promoting athletic sponsored events, kids club activities and home game sponsor promotions, events & hospitality logistics. Interns will gain exposure & experience in sales techniques, brand marketing, advertising & new media advertising techniques.
The Athletics department will take on up to (5) Intern positions per semester.
Interns will report to & be evaluated by (course credit only) the Director of Athletic Marketing.
Interns will interact and work closely with Development Associates & Graduate Assistants (GA) assigned in the department to complete various projects & tasks.
Interns will be asked to work 10 – 15 office hours per week depending on the number of games schedule during the week. Interns will track all projects and time worked. Schedules need to be emailed to Director of Athletic Marketing during the first week of classes. Schedules may be adjusted as need, or based on class assignments, or other school related activities.
Interns are required to assist with game day operations for all home Football, Baseball & Basketball games. Game day ops will include supervision and interaction over Kid Zone Area, Tailgate Promotions, On & Off Field Sponsor Promotions, Hospitality Hosting/ Greeter, and other assigned duties related to athletic marketing.
In addition, each intern will be assigned one additional sport per semester to assist with promotions, and other marketing initiatives. (Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer, Golf, & Track). Interns will function as the departments marketing liaisons with the assigned coaching staff in regards to all marketing areas and promotions.
Interns will communicate sport specific or project updates, potential promotional events, or other marketing related items to the Director and GA weekly. Interns will then work with GA to develop marketing strategies to address team requests, if possible, and as needed.
Potential interns should have experience in retail sales, telemarketing, donor development, marketing, public-relations, graphic design, advertising, promotions, radio production/talent, TV production/talent, or customer service. Active involvement with student RSO’s & clubs is highly preferred and recruited.
Develop marketing plans to promote & advertise student promotions sponsored by athletics or corporate sponsors.
Examples of Intern duties:
Develop, create &/or distribute promotional materials to help raise awareness on & off campus for athletic events, games, and programs. (examples: game day fliers, on campus signage, schedule cards, poster schedules, brochures, magazines, media guides, and any other athletic collateral materials assigned)
Attend weekly Marketing Staff Meetings (45-min). Areas covered include up and coming weekly in-game promotions or events, game day ops reviews for assignments & duties, athletic department updates, and other items
Assist with “team-oriented” projects & events including:
· Purple Circle Golf Tournament (June)
· Bear Nation Celebration (August)
· Lettermen Golf Tournament (May)
· Hall of Fame Banquet (October)
· Bulk Mailout Assembly Projects
Sponsorship Tailgating – Game Day Responsibilities include:
· Corporate lot RSVP signage
· Assist with setup & game day logistic plans
· Street marketing on Bruce
o Distribute game day promotional information
o Hand out corporate sponsorship materials/coupons/product demos
o Conduct fan selection for in-game sponsorship promotions
Assist with execution of in-game corporate sponsor promotions, including:
Half-time football promotions
o Kick For Cash Give Aways
o Nerf Toss Game
o On Field Recognition Events
On court basketball time-out give aways
o Shootout Games
o Knock Out Games
o Best Shot of the Night
o Name That Movie

Students looking for course credit need to first contact your academic advisor and get approval prior to completing the application. Additional paperwork may be required.
Interns will be contacted to set up interviews with Director of Athletic Marketing and/or other Athletic Administrators shortly after receipt of application.
Students that qualify for 1502 Federal Work Study Aid may also apply as interns. Please be sure to mention your aid qualification.
